"Tell the chef, the beer is on me."
I've always wondered how the term "REALTOR" turned into "Real-a-ter" by so many people. I may have been guilty of this myself in the very beginning of my career. Why? Because this is the way I heard it pronounced in the general public. There are two syllables in the term, not three. Many people think the term "REALTOR" is a job title for any one that holds a real estate license. It actually means that the real estate agent is a member of the National Association of Realtors, if you are not, you are not a REALTOR.
I can understand the general public making this mistake, it's easier to say, as it simply rolls off the tongue. What never ceases to amaze me is the amount of real estate agents that say "Real-a-ter", even on TV! I am a firm believer in pronouncing all of our terminology correctly and more importantly, helping others to do so. I feel the TV show should at least encourage the stars to do the same.
Let's say it together now, "REALTOR"!
Do you say "REALTOR" or "Real-a-ter", don't be shy...
